Bridging the Gap: How Healthcare Staffing Supports Global Health Goals

By Kiara Moseby, Healthcare Staffing Leader at Nextaff – Sacramento HC

The World Health Organization (WHO) recently released a report revealing something we in the healthcare staffing industry already know too well, while the global nursing workforce is growing, critical inequities in staffing distribution continue to put healthcare systems at risk.

From 2018 to 2023, the number of nurses worldwide increased from 27.9 to 29.8 million. It’s a positive step, but the story doesn’t end there. Many communities, particularly in low-income, rural, and high-need areas, still struggle with severe staffing shortages. WHO’s data shows the global nurse shortfall has only slightly improved, dropping from 6.2 million in 2020 to 5.8 million in 2023. Reaching sustainable healthcare goals by 2030 will require far more than just growth; it will require strategic action.

At Nextaff Sacramento Healthcare, we see this reality firsthand. And more importantly, we’re actively part of the solution.

From Numbers to Impact

For us, staffing isn’t just about data. It’s about people. We speak with overworked nurses looking for meaningful, balanced roles. Connect with healthcare organizations desperate for consistency and reliability. We understand that every vacancy is more than an empty shift. It’s a gap in patient care, a strain on staff, and a risk to outcomes.

That’s why our approach is rooted in partnership. We get to know our clients and our clinicians. We use our proprietary X-Factor method to find not just any candidate, but the right candidate. And we specialize in supporting high-need environments, such as correctional facilities, skilled nursing homes, and behavioral health centers wherestability and staffing matter most.

Creating Equity Through Access

The WHO emphasizes the need for equitable access to healthcare. We believe staffing plays a critical role in achieving that. Our team helps level the playing field by placing quality clinicians where they’re needed most. This isn’t just about meeting quotas, it’s about ensuring patients in underserved communities receive the care they deserve.

We support our clients by reducing burnout, improving retention, and creating continuity. We support our clinicians by offering flexible, fulfilling opportunities with competitive pay and strong support. And every placement we make moves us closer to a healthcare system that’s not only functional, but fair.

Why This Matters

As healthcare leaders, we know the stakes. When staffing falls short, so does care. But with the right people in the right roles, everything changes. Workflows stabilize. Morale improves. Patient care thrives.

This is why our work matters, not just in Sacramento, not just in California, but as part of a global movement to make healthcare more accessible, more equitable, and more sustainable.

At Nextaff, we’re proud to be part of the solution. Every placement counts. Every client conversation matters. And every clinician we support brings us one step closer to closing the healthcare staffing gap.
